Description
Belonging to the family Rhopalidae, often mistaken as harmful pests, these insects are actually harmless. Commonly dubbed as 'scentless plant bugs', they are distinct from other bug relatives for lacking the typical foul odor. Instead, Rhopalidae are fascinating for their role in ecosystems as they primarily feed on seeds and sometimes leaves of plants without causing significant damage. This is contrary to the prevalent myth that all members of the larger bug order are destructive to crops. They showcase the diversity and complexity of ecological roles insects play, illustrating the necessity of each species in maintaining the balance of our natural world.
