Description
Often misconstrued merely as pests, Scathophagidae actually serve as important decomposers, breaking down animal waste and thus cycling nutrients back into the soil. This not only aids in soil fertility but also curtails the spread of disease by decomposing waste material. Typically found buzzing around damp habitats, they are also vital as pollinators for certain plants, overshadowing their less savory associations.
