Description
The genus Serica comprises beetles often known for their robust and glossy bodies, which during flight, create a softly audible hum. Contrary to popular belief suggesting all beetles are destructive, Serica species are primarily detritivores, playing a crucial role in recycling nutrients back into the soil. They are mainly nocturnal and are attracted to lights, making them familiar yet often misunderstood visitors in gardens during the early evening.
