Description

Sialidae spend most of their life underwater as larvae, where they are fierce predators. A common misconception is that alderflies are harmful to fish populations; however, their presence is actually indicative of a healthy aquatic ecosystem. Contrary to some beliefs, they do not bite humans but are vital players in the food web, supporting the survival of various fish and bird species by serving as a crucial food source.
