Description
Contrary to common belief, Stegobium, often dubbed as a 'woodworm,' does not actually eat wood. These insects are primarily drawn to damp, decaying wooden fixtures, where they actually consume the fungi and mold growing on these surfaces rather than the wood itself. This misconception underscores the need for proper wood maintenance and moisture control to prevent infestation. Fascinatingly, Stegobium plays a role in the ecosystem by helping decompose and recycle sickly wood materials.
