Description

Despite its frightening appearance, Stenopelmatus is not harmful to humans. Members of the Stenopelmatus genus are often dubbed as 'Jerusalem crickets' but are neither true crickets nor are they unique to Jerusalem. These nocturnal insects utilize their strong mandibles to feed primarily on dead organic material and live insects. Featuring a robust, large head and beady eyes, they communicate through vibrations in the ground rather than sounds. This form of communication is crucial during mating seasons and territorial disputes.
