Description
Belonging to the family Tettigoniidae, these fascinating insects are more commonly referred to as 'katydids' or 'bush crickets.' A common misconception is that they are entirely green and live exclusively in trees, when, in fact, many species are beautifully camouflaged in hues of brown and even pink, adapting seamlessly to various environments including ground and shrub levels. Katydids exhibit a remarkable evolutionary trait: their ears are located on their legs! This unique adaptation allows them to detect predator movements and communicate effectively within their species, playing a crucial role in their survival.
