Description
Zootermopsis is a genus of dampwood termites, often mistaken for the destructive pests that invade human homes. However, they primarily thrive in moist and decaying wood in forests, playing a crucial role in recycling dead trees. These termites are intriguingly social creatures, living in complex colonies with a hierarchical structure. Unlike the common misconception, they are beneficial to ecosystems by facilitating decomposition and nutrient cycling, rather than being mere nuisances.
