Cloeon, a genus within the mayfly family, exemplifies a fascinating survival strategy known as incomplete metamorphosis. Unlike butterflies, Cloeon skips the pupal stage, transitioning directly from nymph to adult. Intriguingly, adult Cloeon mayflies are ephemeral, living only for a very short period, sometimes just a day. This brief lifespan is often misunderstood as a tragic flaw, yet it serves an evolutionary purpose, promoting rapid reproduction and consequently high population growth rates.
