Description
Corydalus often mistaken due to its intimidating appearance as a threat to humans. In reality, while the larvae, known as hellgrammites, are fierce aquatic predators, the adults are harmless and do not feed at all. Their fearsome mandibles in the adults, especially notable in males, are used solely for mating disputes. Indigenous to flowing streams and rivers, the larvae's presence often indicates clean water, marking them as bioindicators of ecological health.
