Description
Members of the Elateridae family, possess a fascinating and unique defense mechanism. When threatened or turned on their backs, these beetles can catapult themselves into the air with a loud clicking sound by snapping a spine on their thorax into a groove on their abdomen. This not only helps them evade predators, but also right themselves if they find themselves upside down.
