Description
The Conoderus genus, part of the click beetle family, is known for its unique ability to leap into the air with a sharp 'click' sound as a defense mechanism. This sound is produced by a spine-and-groove structure on their underside, which when released, propels them into the air to evade predators or right themselves if flipped over. Contrary to what might be assumed, these beetles do not emit light like their firefly relatives, despite their ability to produce sudden, surprising movements.
