Description
Despite their appearance, members of the genus Microcentrum are not leaves but masterful mimics among insects. These creatures belong to the family Tettigoniidae and are commonly known as leaf mimics. This camouflage helps them evade predators by blending seamlessly into their surroundings, appearing just like a leaf, complete with veins and browning edges. These insects not only look like foliage but also consume plant material, enhancing their disguise. They produce sounds by rubbing their wings together, a behavior called stridulation, primarily used for communication during mating.
