Oedemera
Scientific name: Oedemera

Description

Members of the genus Oedemera are often seen perched atop flowers, flaunting their metallic or velvety bodies under the sun. Contrary to what one might think, these insects are harmless to plants, as the adults primarily feed on pollen. Interestingly, their enlarged hind femora, which give them a robust appearance, are not indicative of enhanced jumping ability but are more likely involved in mating rituals or intra-species competition. This feature often leads to their mistaken identity as beetles with enhanced strength or agility.
