Description
Belonging to the family Oedemeridae, these beetles are often mistaken for fireflies due to their soft bodies and nocturnal habits. However, unlike fireflies, members of the Oedemeridae family do not produce light. The larvae feed on decaying wood and plant matter, aiding in nutrient recycling, while adults are commonly found on flowers, feeding on pollen and nectar. Interestingly, the vibrant colors of many Oedemeridae species serve as a warning, indicating toxicity derived from the plants they consume during their larval stage.
