Description
The Tomarus genus, often unnoticed, plays a pivotal role in the ecosystem, particularly in soil aeration and recycling nutrients. Contrary to what might be expected from their robust appearance, these beetles are harmless to humans, focusing their diet primarily on decomposing organic matter rather than living plants or animals. Their bulky larvae, commonly mistaken for harmful pests, are actually beneficial, speeding up the decomposition process of dead wood and leaf litter, which enriches the soil fertility.
