Description
Despite their tiny size, members of the genus Aedes play a mammoth role in global health. These mosquitoes are primary vectors of diseases such as dengue, Zika, and yellow fever. In fact, only female Aedes mosquitoes bite humans, as they require blood to develop fertile eggs. Contrary to common belief, they do not transmit diseases simply to harm; the pathogens are inadvertently passed along during their feeding process.
